Illinois Medicaid
Illinois Medicaid covers these services at no cost and without prior authorization.
(No co-pays, deductibles or out-of-pocket costs)
Prenatal Care
- Choose a doctor or midwife to deliver your baby in the setting that is right for you
- Receive prenatal ultrasounds and check-ups along with specialist care if needed
- Get care and support after delivering your baby for future family planning
Call your clinic for a first prenatal visit or pregnancy test as soon as you think you might be pregnant.

Birth control options*
- IUD
- Implants - Nexplanon
- Birth control pills, patches and rings
- Condoms
- Diaphragm or cervical cap
- Depo shot
Emergency contraception*
- The morning-after pill (these can be used to prevent pregnancy up to five days after unprotected sex)
- Available without a prescription
- IUD placement within 5 days after unprotected sex is the most effective way to prevent pregnancy

You can receive services anywhere that accepts your Illinois Medicaid health plan:
- Clinics

- Hospitals
- Family Planning Clinics
Choose a provider:
- Family Doctor
- Midwife
- Nurse Practitioner
- OB/GYN
- Physician Assistant
- You may see your usual primary care provider (PCP) for your reproductive health needs.
- PCPs are usually family doctors, internal medicine doctors, pediatricians, physician assistants or nurse practitioners.
- You may also have a separate women's health provider, usually an OB/GYN or midwife in addition to your PCP.
If you’re 12+, you can receive these services on your own, anywhere these services are offered and takes your Medicaid health plan:
- Birth control
- STI testing, screening and treatment
- Abortion
